Microsoft Office Help Window
The following commands open the Microsoft Office Help Window when the Assistant is not enabled. (See Microsoft Office 2004: The Office Assistant, for information on the Assistant.)
- Depending on which application you are running, from the HELP menu, select WORD HELP, EXCEL HELP, or POWERPOINT HELP.
- If you have a HELP key on your keyboard, press that key.
- Hold down the COMMAND (OPEN APPLE) key and press the QUESTION MARK key (?).
- Press the ? button in the Toolbar.

The MICROSOFT OFFICE HELP window includes all the information Office has to help solve your problem. It includes overview information, visual examples, and step-by-step procedures.
Once you open the MICROSOFT OFFICE HELP Window do not click anything, simply type the topic of your problem.
When your topic is typed, click once on the SEARCH button under the query box, or press the ENTER or RETURN key.
A list of topics are displayed on the left frame of the window.
Click once on a topic. This changes the right frame of the window to display either a list of subtopics or step-by-step information.
If there is more than one subtopic, simply click once on the subtopic to view the answer to your problem.
If the page did not resolve your problem, try revising the topic you searched for,
e.g. change spell checking to spelling.
If you do not find the answers you are looking for, you can navigate through the CONTENTS menu. Click once on the CONTENTS button located at the top of the window.
The CONTENTS menu offers information in categories in the left frame of the window. It can be used to find information on general topics.
Click once on START USING WORD. A sub-menu appears.
Now click once on WHAT'S NEW. This shows a topic of WHAT'S NEW IN MICROSOFT OFFICE. Clicking once on that topic displays a short description of Microsoft Office 2004 with a link to more information.
If you click once on the blue colored WHAT'S NEW in the right frame, a webpage will popup with the additions to Word since the release of Office X.
The webpage that you are brought to describes the new features and the changes in Office 2004 since Office X.
This is just one of the ways the help menu branches out into other mediums.
Clicking once on the WORD 2004 button on the right side of the screen brings you to the new features of Word 2004.
The other two buttons INDEX and GLOSSARY, located at the top of the window, can also be helpful.
The INDEX menu is used to look for specific words or phrases.
Click once on the INDEX button.
To use the INDEX menu, simply click on the letter or number that the topic you are looking for starts with. The menus work the same for INDEX as they did for CONTENTS.
Use the GLOSSARY menu to look up the definition of a word. Click once on the GLOSSARY button. To use the GLOSSARY menu, simply click on the letter that the topic you are looking for starts with.
Click once on the topic of your choice. A bubbled window with the definition will popup near your mouse pointer. To close the popup window, simply click on it or anywhere in the help window.
