Microsoft Office 2004 QuickStart
Microsoft Office 2004 is a suite of productivity applications which includes Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. You can use the applications individually in a stand-alone fashion or in conjunction to complement each other. If you have not installed Microsoft Office 2004, instructions are available at this link: Installing Microsoft Office 2004.
Once you have successfully installed Microsoft Office, open your hard drive and locate the APPLICATIONS folder.
Next locate the Microsoft Office folder and double click to open it.
Double-click on any application icon to launch.
The rest of the folders residing within the Microsoft Office 2004 folder contain supporting files which enable a variety of functions within the suite of Microsoft Office 2004 applications. Many of these files MUST remain in this folder for the applications to function properly. Please do not remove these folders or move the applications outside of the Microsoft Office 2004 folder itself. If you like to have an applications icon on your desktop, make an alias of the application and move the alias to the desktop rather than moving the application itself.
There are several ways to make an alias of an application:
Click once on the application's icon, then go to the FILE menu, and select MAKE ALIAS. Another icon appears with the same filename plus 'alias', all in italics. Move this alias icon to your desktop.
Click once on the application's icon, then press COMMAND and the letter L simultaneously. Another icon appears with the same filename plus 'alias', all in italics. Move this alias icon to your desktop.
You can hold down the COMMAND and OPTION keys, then click and drag an application's icon to a different folder or to your desktop. An alias is automatically created and does not have the word 'alias' attached to the end of the filename.
Microsoft Office 2004 features a comprehensive HELP component. You can ask questions and receive potential answers, look at the help component's index, or lookup tasks you would like to perform alphabetically.
By default, the MICROSOFT ASSISTANT automatically displays when you launch a Microsoft Office application. The assistant is the easiest way to find an answer to your Microsoft Office 2004 questions.
If your MICROSOFT ASSISTANT is not displayed, from the HELP menu select USE THE OFFICE ASSISTANT.
Click on the MICROSOFT ASSISTANT in order to ask a question or select a task.
For all other help functions, you can click the ? icon from the main toolbar located on the top, or select WORD HELP from the HELP menu.
Note that you can also reach the Microsoft Office Help functions through a simple combination of the APPLE KEY + ? KEY. If you have a help button featured on your keyboard use this instead.
