Useful Powerpoint 2004 Views
We will begin by introducing you to several options you have for viewing your PowerPoint documents. This introduction will enable you to easily maneuver the views in order to quickly manipulate the content.
You have a number of different options for viewing your PowerPoint documents. In addition to having multiple viewing options, there are two ways to access those views. This introduction will enable you to easily maneuver the different views in order to quickly manipulate the content of your presentation.
The VIEW menu.
NORMAL - This view is the standard slide view which has three panes within the window:
The OUTLINE of your presentation text is on the left.
The SLIDE pane is on the right
The NOTES pane appears just below the Slide pane.

SLIDE - This view shows your slides individually, without the NOTES and OUTLINE of the NORMAL VIEW.
Use the scroll bar at the right side of the window to move to different slides.
The SLIDE view also allows you to see how your text looks on each individual slide. You can add graphics, movies, sounds, and animations, and also create hyperlinks on individual slides.

SLIDE SORTER - This view enables you to quickly organize all of your slides via drag and drop.
Numbered thumbnails of each slide appear in one window and allow you to add, delete, and move slides from one position to another.

NOTES PAGE - This view is useful for both the presenter and the audience.
The presenter can include notes that will appear on pages under slides. In addition, hard copies of the slide presentations can be printed with blank note lines. This is especially useful for audience members that want to take notes during the presentation.
PRESENTER TOOLS - To view the presenter tools go to the VIEW menu and select PRESENTER TOOLS.
The presenter tools are ment to help you practice and present your slide show. To use the presenter tools for a live presentation, you must have two monitors set up. The audience sees only the slide show, and you see the presenter tools on your monitor's screen.
SLIDE SHOW - This view starts your presentation just as your audience sees it. Start the SLIDE SHOW by either going to the SLIDE SHOW menu and selecting VIEW SHOW,or from the VIEW menu select SLIDE SHOW.

MASTER - This view creates a template that all slides in your presentation follow. This view is especially useful for personalizing your presentation.
The MASTER view has four components: SLIDE MASTER, TITLE MASTER, HANDOUT MASTER, and NOTES MASTER.
To go to the MASTER view, use the VIEW menu, scroll down to MASTER, and from the sub-menu, select the desired master.

SLIDE MASTER: This view is similar to the SLIDE view.
This view isolates each area of your slide such as the title, the footers, the date, and the general text area and thus makes it easier for you to format your slide.
Each individual part of your slide is selected in a dotted rectangle. If you want to move any of the components, such as the date or the footer, all you have to do is drag and drop the dotted rectangle.
Any item that is placed on the SLIDE MASTER appears on every slide in your presentation. Using the SLIDE MASTER means less work on your part because you place items like the date or a logo only once on the SLIDE MASTER rather than placing it on each and every slide individually.

TITLE MASTER: The TITLE MASTER holds the place holders for the title and sub-titles in your presentation.
This view is similar to the SLIDE MASTER view.
The TITLE MASTER view focuses on the title and subtitles of your slide. Just like the SLIDE MASTER view, drag the components if you want to move them to a different location.
Any changes that you make on the TITLE MASTER affects all slides in your presentation.

HANDOUT MASTER: The HANDOUT MASTER allows you to define the format of your audience handouts.
Add to this master any key components that you want on all handouts.
You can choose different layouts for this view, such as a handout slide divided into two, three, four, or more slides. This makes it easier to include pictures on one part of a page and text on another.
To select different layouts for your HANDOUT MASTER view, go to VIEW, select TOOLBARS, and then select HANDOUT MASTER.
The HANDOUT MASTER toolbar appears with the Master Handout (by default). Click on one of that toolbar buttons to select the desired layout.

NOTES MASTER: this view focuses on the notes area of your slide. Again you can add all common components for your notes. You can also resize or change the location of the slide image or notes box to suit your needs.
The primary views that you use in PowerPoint are NORMAL and SLIDE SORTER. To easily switch between views, PowerPoint offers you an alternative to using the VIEW menu. In the bottom left portion of a PowerPoint document window is a small button bar which enables you to quickly switch between one of five different views.
If you are not sure which view a button will display, point but do not click on the button, and a small yellow box appears and informs you of the buttons function.
The View Bar
The first button on the View Bar switches to NORMAL view.
The second button switches to OUTLINE view which you can use to organize and develop the text content of your presentation. The Outline View is most useful in long presentations with a lot of information. The Outline view helps you organize topics by including the title bar information in the outline. You can quickly type all the text and rearrange bullet points, paragraphs, and slides. You can also drag and drop slides to quickly reorganize.
The third button switches to SLIDE view.
The fourth button switches to SLIDE SORTER view.
The fifth button, SLIDE SHOW, starts your slide show and allows you to view your presentation at any time.
The next tutorial demonstrates how to Add pictures to your presentation:
