Connecting to eDisk in Windows

By Malik Perkins '01

Windows users can now connect to eDisk using the Windows file sharing feature.

For those users connecting from off-campus, you will have to connect to VPN using the fandm-internet connection entry first. For more information about how to use and install VPN client please go to http://computing.fandm.edu/training/windows/tips/vpninstallanduse.php

Once connected through F&M's system, either directly from campus or indirectly via VPN, you can connect to eDisk by selecting the Run... option under the Start menu.

In the Run... window that appears, type \\edisk.fandm.edu and click OK

PLEASE NOTE: Users who have not changed their unified password since the end of Spring semester 2005 will have to change their password in order to take advantage of this feature.
You can change your password by logging on to
password.fandm.edu

After signing into eDisk with your username and unified password a window appears with three icons. The folder with your name gives you access to your home folder and the folder, entitled eDisk, gives you access to the full contet of eDisk.

To get to a home folder other then your own select the eDisk folder. From this folder you can access the home folders for all administrative and academic offices and all clubs and organizations by selecting the Groups folder. You can access the home folders of other students, faculty and staff by selecting the People folder. Student can access folders for each their courses in the home folder of the faculty member teaching the course.

The People folder is further broken down by first letter of an individual's last name. Within these alphabet folders individuals are sorted alphabetically according to first name. As an example, to get to Ima Student's home folder you would first go to People, then to S and scroll down until you see Ima.Student.

Please Note: You can also create shortcuts to the folders that you view most often. To do this simply drag the icon for the folder you want to make a shortcut for onto your desktop using the right-click button on your mouse. When you release the right-click button you should see a contextual menu with the option Create Shortcut Here. If you select that option your computer should create a shortcut for that folder on your desktop.
